Our Statement in Regards to Recent Collaboration with Factory International

We are aware of the concerns raised by some members of our community regarding our continued partnership with Factory International and the use of Aviva Studios. We hear and value each one of you. We understand that these are not easy times, and that complex decisions have to be made, especially when art and activism are held in the same breath.

Young Identity has always stood at the intersection of art and justice. We are committed to an ongoing review of our partnerships. Our decision to continue with Breathe at Aviva Studios is not made lightly. However, we differentiate between the infrastructure of a building and the values of the people and organisations who create space within it. Factory International has provided opportunities for our young artists to grow, speak freely and present their work without censorship. We remain committed to holding those values sacred in every space we inhabit, including Aviva Studios.

Young Identity will continue to speak truth to power, support youth voices and ask difficult questions through our work, including about who funds culture and what it means to be truly inclusive. Our presence in any institution will never signify silence or endorsement of its practices or associations. Our presence here signifies our commitment to represent our communities boldly and authentically.

We carry the fire of resistance wherever we go.
Artistic expression. Social justice. No compromise.
We welcome dialogue. We welcome dissent. We move forward with purpose.
